Fès-Meknès: Entrepreneurial Activity Accelerates but Remains Concentrated in Fès

The Fès-Meknès region affirms the vitality of its economic landscape with the creation of 4,268 new corporate entities, according to recent data from the Moroccan Observatory for Very Small, Small, and Medium Enterprises (TPME).

This development is accompanied by a significant increase in economic indicators, with a total estimated turnover of 97 billion dirhams and a value-added of 16.9 billion dirhams.

Fès: The Main Economic Engine of the Region

Despite this positive momentum, economic activity remains heavily concentrated in the Fès prefecture, which plays a central role in the region’s structure.

It accounts for over 50% of active businesses (50.6%), generates approximately 59.2% of regional revenue, and concentrates 51.2% of declared jobs, thus confirming its status as the primary economic hub of Fès-Meknès.

An Entrepreneurial Fabric Dominated by Very Small Enterprises

The region is home to around 29,203 active businesses, with a vast majority (95.4%) being very small enterprises generating a turnover of less than 10 million dirhams.

This structure highlights the importance of these small entities in the local economic dynamic, as well as their essential role in job creation and wealth generation.

Employment and Investment: Positive Signals

In terms of employment, the region reports nearly 299,587 declared positions to the National Social Security Fund (CNSS), with an estimated female participation rate of 38.7%, illustrating progress in the integration of women into the labor market.

Moreover, the number of businesses in distress or dissolution has decreased by 6.6%, standing at 1,032 entities, which indicates a degree of resilience in the regional entrepreneurial landscape.

Growth Driven but Still Unbalanced

While the indicators confirm an acceleration of entrepreneurial dynamics in Fès-Meknès, the data reveals a significant concentration of economic activity in Fès, highlighting territorial disparities within the region.

This situation underscores the necessity to bolster economic development in other provinces to ensure a more balanced regional growth.
