Morocco Hosts Tests of an American-Israeli Missile During a Military Exercise
Morocco recently hosted a field exercise involving the Royal Armed Forces and U.S. forces, with participation from the American-Israeli company Covenant, which specializes in defense technologies. The activity aimed to test a modern missile system and evaluate its performance under conditions simulating an operational environment.
This experience is among the first activities held at the African Multi-Domain Training and Experimentation Center (AMTEC), a new facility designed to provide a specialized environment for testing advanced military equipment and technologies.
The center is expected to facilitate real-world testing of various defense systems, with participation from both Moroccan and American forces, as well as companies specialized in the defense industry and potential international partners.
Planned activities within this infrastructure could cover numerous technologies, including long-range missiles, drones, autonomous systems, sensors, and communication methods.
The Anthem missile, developed by Covenant, was one of the systems evaluated during this activity. Marketed as a long-range cruise missile, the system is purported to have been designed with the goal of reducing production costs and enabling large-scale manufacturing.
However, specific details regarding its range have not been officially disclosed by the manufacturer.
The testing was not limited to the missile’s functionality; it also included the establishment of a temporary operational site intended to replicate certain conditions that might be encountered during field deployment.
Several components of the system were evaluated, including communication and mobility means, as well as some equipment associated with the missile and its launcher.
Engineers and technicians from Covenant participated in the tests alongside members of the U.S. and Moroccan forces. Data was collected and analyzed to assess the system’s performance and draw technical conclusions from the experiment.
This activity highlights the expanding defense cooperation between Morocco and the United States, which now extends beyond joint exercises and training to encompass technology, testing, and military capability development.
The presence of a specialized facility like AMTEC in Morocco could further reinforce the Kingdom’s position as a strategic partner for Washington in the field of defense in Africa, while providing a suitable environment for testing advanced military technologies.
Continuing such activities could also promote the expansion of cooperation into other areas, including autonomous systems, detection and communication technologies, as well as long-range missile systems.
