Royal Air Maroc in negotiations with Starlink to offer satellite internet on its planes

Royal Air Maroc is currently in negotiations with Starlink, a subsidiary of the SpaceX group, to explore the possibility of integrating its satellite internet service onboard the national airline’s aircraft.
The discussions are ongoing and no final agreement has been announced yet. The airline is particularly examining the technical and operational aspects related to the integration of this technology into its fleet.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at modernizing the passenger experience and enhancing onboard connectivity. It would enable travelers to access the internet, use messaging applications, and enjoy digital services, as well as providing the opportunity to consume online content during flights.
Starlink relies on a network of satellites placed in low Earth orbit, offering high speeds and reduced latency compared to several traditional air connectivity systems.
If an agreement is reached, the rollout could be gradual, with an initial experimental phase on select aircraft before potential widespread implementation across the entire fleet.
Royal Air Maroc had previously planned to significantly expand onboard connectivity for its planes by 2028. However, an agreement with Starlink could accelerate this timeline.
This endeavor comes as the airline continues to modernize its fleet and expand its network, in the context of anticipated growth in air travel in Morocco.
At this stage, the integration of Starlink remains a project under consideration, and the next steps will depend on the outcome of negotiations and the eventual conclusion of a commercial and technical agreement between the two parties.
