Meta spends hundreds of millions of dollars annually on Microsoft’s AI services.

Technology giants continue to ramp up their investments in infrastructure dedicated to artificial intelligence. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has now become one of the major clients of the AI services offered by Microsoft.
According to Bloomberg, citing a source close to the matter, Meta spends hundreds of millions of dollars each year to access AI-related services through Azure, Microsoft’s cloud computing platform.
These expenditures illustrate the extent of the computing resources necessary for large tech companies to develop and operate their AI applications. Demand is especially rising for models capable of processing substantial volumes of data and executing complex operations in a reduced timeframe.
According to the same source, Meta utilizes Azure’s services to process trillions of tokens every week. These units help measure the volume of textual data processed by AI models and, consequently, assess the computing resources needed for their operation.
This collaboration aligns with Microsoft’s strategy to strengthen its activities in the field of artificial intelligence by offering, through its Foundry platform, access to various models developed by different industry players.
This approach enables companies to utilize a wide range of AI models through Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure, thereby enhancing Azure’s position in the cloud and AI services market.
According to available data, the number of clients on the Foundry platform reached approximately 100,000 last July, reflecting the growth of businesses and institutions relying on cloud infrastructure to develop and deploy their AI applications.
The agreement with Meta also highlights the increasing prominence of AI services in the revenue streams of technology infrastructure providers, as large global companies seek to secure the computing capabilities necessary for developing new products and services.
Finally, this evolution shows that competition in the artificial intelligence sector is no longer limited to designing the most effective models. It now extends to data centers, cloud infrastructure, and computing capabilities, which have become strategic elements for leveraging AI technologies at scale.
