Electric Batteries: Gotion’s Factory in Kénitra to Begin Production in August 2026

Chinese company Gotion High-Tech plans to commence production at its electric battery factory in Kénitra in August 2026.
This gigafactory, one of the most significant industrial initiatives in the electric vehicle sector in Morocco, marks a key milestone with the confirmation of a more precise start-up timeline, following an advanced phase of industrial preparation and recruitment.
A Strategic Gigafactory for Morocco
Signed in 2024, the project represents a strategic investment estimated in the billions of dirhams and is expected to create thousands of direct, indirect, and induced jobs.
The first phase aims to achieve a production capacity of approximately 20 GWh, with plans for a gradual ramp-up targeting significantly larger volumes primarily for European markets.
Morocco at the Heart of the Battery Value Chain
The Kénitra factory will produce batteries as well as essential components such as cathodes and anodes, positioning Morocco in a high-value segment of the global automotive industry.
This positioning strengthens the Kingdom’s strategy to become a regional industrial hub for technologies related to electric mobility and energy storage.
Recruitment Launched and Advanced Preparations Underway
Several recruitment campaigns have already been initiated to support the ramp-up of the site, especially in the areas of production, logistics, and support functions.
These developments confirm that the project has entered an advanced operational phase, with a gradual structuring of teams ahead of industrial start-up.
A Project Aligned with the Global Transition to Electric Vehicles
Beyond its local industrial impact, Gotion’s gigafactory is part of a global trend toward the transition to electric vehicles.
Morocco, therefore, solidifies its position in the value chains of the electric automotive sector, leveraging its existing industrial ecosystem and proximity to European markets.
