Book Fair: Inaugural Spanish Book Salon in Rabat
The Moroccan capital will host its very first Spanish Book Fair from November 26 to 28, organized by the Spanish Embassy in Morocco and the Cervantes Institute in Rabat. This event will bring together authors from Spain, Latin America, and Morocco to celebrate the richness of Hispanic literature.

This initiative, a collaboration with the State Secretariat for Latin America, the Caribbean, and Spanish in the World, along with several Ibero-American embassies, aims to enhance cultural dialogue around Spanish, the second most spoken language in the world.

The fair offers a rich program that includes book presentations, poetry readings, conferences, and dialogues among writers from both sides of the Atlantic, creating a space for exchange among the Spanish-speaking community and Moroccan Hispanists.
An Opening Dedicated to Ana María Matute
The event will kick off with the exhibition “Those Who Do Not Invent Do Not Live,” dedicated to the life and works of Ana María Matute in celebration of the centenary of her birth. The exhibition traces key stages of her literary journey and highlights her significant role in post-war Spanish narrative.

Following the inauguration, Mexican author Jorge Volpi will unveil The Invention of All Things, a book that merges essay, fiction, and historical reflection, characteristic of his hybrid style.

Spanish journalist and writer Álex Grijelmo will present The Perversion of Anonymity, a book in which he explores how digital discourse transforms truth, identity, and public ethics.
Day Two: Poetry and Novels with Valeria Correa Fiz
The second day will kick off with Argentine novelist and poet Valeria Correa Fiz, who will read excerpts from Así el deseo (2021) and her novel Hubo un jardín (2022), exploring themes of memory, desire, and human fragility.
A Symposium on the West, Africa, and Global Changes
This day will also feature a symposium with Beatriz Mesa, presenting her essay The Failure of the West in Africa, and Lucas Martín Serrano, discussing the key points of his works Global Vision (2021) and Global Terror (2023).
Closure: Writing in Spanish in Morocco
The fair will conclude with a roundtable discussion titled “The Challenge of Writing in Spanish,” featuring three prominent Moroccan Hispanists: Mohamed Abrighach, Abderrahman El Fathi, and Khadija Karzazi, specialists in novels, poetry, and essays.
