The WHO officially announces that Morocco has mastered hepatitis B.

The WHO Officially Recognizes Morocco as a Country Controlling Hepatitis B
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as part of Morocco’s ongoing efforts to combat epidemic diseases, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection has announced that during its session held on November 13, 2025, in Cairo, the regional committee of the WHO for the Eastern Mediterranean officially recognized Morocco as a “country controlling hepatitis B.”
This recognition marks a significant milestone reflecting the substantial progress the Kingdom has made in the prevention, screening, and management of viral hepatitis B. It also represents an important step toward Morocco’s strategic goal of eliminating hepatitis B as a public health issue.
This decision is based on the remarkable national performance recorded in key areas, including:
- Comprehensive vaccination of newborns, carried out under a robust and impactful national immunization program;
- Strengthening the epidemiological surveillance system and laboratory diagnostic capabilities;
- Development and regular updates of therapeutic protocols, based on data from the latest national survey on viral hepatitis B.
On this occasion, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection expresses its deep appreciation for the essential role played by healthcare professionals at all levels in planning, implementing, and monitoring public health programs, as well as in the continuous improvement of their effectiveness and impact.
The Ministry also extends its gratitude to all national and international partners for their ongoing support, which has been instrumental in achieving this major public health milestone for Morocco.
