Youssef Allakouch Elected Secretary General of the UGTM

The General Union of Workers of Morocco (UGTM) unanimously elected Youssef Allakouch as the new Secretary General on Sunday, succeeding Naam Miyara.

This election took place during the extraordinary national congress of the union, held in Salé under the theme: “United and Resilient for a Progressive and Just Morocco.”

In his inaugural speech as the new Secretary General, Youssef Allakouch emphasized that the current context demands a strengthened commitment from the working class, both in the public and private sectors, to defend the legitimate claims of workers and safeguard social achievements.

He also stressed the necessity of maintaining constant social vigilance and adopting a responsible discourse in the face of global economic transformations and their impact on working conditions.

The new union leader stated that the UGTM aspires to uphold a vision of society based on dignity, staying attuned to the concerns of workers across various productive and service sectors, whether in businesses, administrations, or public and private establishments.

He further highlighted the importance of presenting a clear agenda of demands, placing the dignity of workers at the forefront of priorities, while also navigating the ongoing transformations in the labor market.

Finally, the congress featured the presentation and adoption of moral and financial reports by the outgoing leadership, before concluding this extraordinary session.
