Burundi Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity

The Republic of Burundi reaffirmed its firm support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Sahara region on Monday, during the inaugural session of the Morocco-Burundi Joint Cooperation Commission held in Rabat.

This official stance was articulated in a joint statement signed by Burundian Foreign Minister Albert Shingiro and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, who oversees Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad.

In this document, Minister Shingiro praised the international dynamics initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in favor of Morocco’s claims over the Sahara. He highlighted the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the only credible and realistic solution to resolve the regional dispute surrounding this issue.

The Burundian diplomat also reaffirmed his country’s longstanding position in unreserved support of Morocco’s proposed autonomy plan, emphasizing the central role of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for a political resolution of this matter.

This backing is part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties between Morocco and Burundi, reflecting a convergence of diplomatic views on issues of sovereignty, regional stability, and South-South cooperation.
