WHO Officially Recognizes Morocco’s Progress
The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has announced that the regional committee of the World Health Organization for the Eastern Mediterranean has officially categorized Morocco as a “country effectively managing hepatitis B.” This decision was made during a session held on November 13, 2025, in Cairo, marking a significant advancement in the national fight against epidemic diseases.
A Crucial Step Towards Eliminating Hepatitis B
This international recognition highlights the considerable progress Morocco has made in the prevention, screening, and management of viral hepatitis B. It also serves as an important milestone on the path towards eliminating this disease as a public health issue.
National Achievements Acknowledged by WHO
The WHO’s decision is based on several key achievements:
Systematic vaccination of newborns, integrated into a high-impact national program;
Strengthening the epidemiological surveillance system and laboratory diagnostic capabilities;
Ongoing updates to therapeutic protocols, developed based on the latest national survey data on viral hepatitis B.
