Morocco Aims for a High-Value Agro-Industry
Morocco Aims for a Premium Agro-Industry Focused on Added Value
On Wednesday in Casablanca, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour, stated that Morocco must steer its agrifood industry towards high value-added products, particularly by enhancing brand premium. According to him, this strategy is a crucial lever to support the national ambition for inclusive economic growth.
Speaking at the opening of the inaugural Agro Export Day 2025, themed “Made in Morocco, Desired Worldwide: Exporting Moroccan Agrifood Quality”, the minister emphasized the profound transformation of the national production fabric, now capable of producing some of the most complex goods globally, such as commercial aircraft engines.
To illustrate the evolution of the sector, Mr. Mezzour notably cited the example of citrus concentrate, a symbol of the gradual upgrading of Morocco’s agro-industry.
Placing Quality at the Core of Export Strategy
In light of the limitations of national resources, particularly regarding water and land, the minister stressed the need to enhance Moroccan quality, shift away from bulk products, and invest more in innovation.
The success of this transition relies on establishing a strong brand that can distinguish Moroccan products in international markets.
He praised the efforts of industry operators, thanks to whom Morocco currently exports to 153 countries, while calling for continued innovation and competitiveness to foster inclusive industrial growth.
The Executive Director of the Casablanca Stock Exchange, Zineb Guennouni, reminded attendees that the Kingdom is entering a new acceleration phase where individual ambitions converge with a collective vision.
According to her, this event marks a moment when “Made in Morocco” becomes not only a source of national pride but also a promise to the world.
She highlighted the historical contribution of the Stock Exchange, which has accompanied Morocco’s major economic turning points for nearly a century, and mentioned the current dynamics:
accelerated digitalization,
product diversification,
enhanced opening to individuals,
modernized regulation.
The agrifood sector holds a strategic position, with about ten listed companies representing a capitalization of approximately 45 billion dirhams and a consolidated turnover nearing 27 billion dirhams, of which over a third comes from exports.
These companies have invested more than 3.6 billion dirhams in recent years, showing an average growth of 285% since their stock market introduction and a performance of 6% since the beginning of the year.
A New Strategic Meeting for Agrifood Exports
Organized by FENAGRI, in partnership with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the State Secretary for Foreign Trade, and AMDIE, Agro Export Day 2025 is positioned as an international event dedicated to promoting the Made in Morocco agrifood sector.
This inaugural edition kicks off an annual platform for strategic reflection, promotion of Moroccan products, and high-level B2B meetings.
It brought together over 200 participants, including business leaders, institutional representatives, exporters, international buyers, investors, and industry experts.
