Morocco 2025 AFCON: Midfielder Azzeddine Ounahi Out for the Tournament
On Sunday, national coach Walid Regragui announced that Azzeddine Ounahi, the midfield star of the Atlas Lions, will be unavailable for the remainder of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition.
“Ounahi sustained an injury during Saturday’s training session. He has a calf tear and will not be able to play in this AFCON,” Regragui expressed regret during a post-match press conference following Morocco’s 1-0 victory over Tanzania. He added that Ounahi is expected to be sidelined for five to six weeks.
“This was an old injury he had previously suffered while with Girona. Unfortunately, we’ve lost our technical leader. Yesterday was tough for everyone. We had to qualify for him,” Regragui further noted.
This injury marks a significant setback for Morocco as they advance in the tournament.
