Three individuals lost their lives after a fatal trampling incident during a recent elephant attack in Jharkhand, an eastern Indian state, according to local media reports.

An Expert Among the Victims

According to the Press Trust of India (PTI), the victims included a 40-year-old man, a young child, and a member of a team of experts dispatched from West Bengal. This team was deployed in the Singhbhum forest district with the aim of moving the wild animal away from populated areas.

An Elephant Responsible for Over 20 Deaths

Local authorities attribute these repeated attacks to a solitary wild elephant, which has been responsible for the deaths of at least 20 people, including three minors, over the past two weeks.

Villages Under Constant Threat

The surge in these incidents has led to heightened concern among several forest villages. Some attacks occurred at night while victims were asleep in their homes, while others took place in agricultural fields.

Urbanization and Deforestation to Blame

Wildlife experts believe that deforestation, rapid urbanization, encroachment on forest land, and the loss of buffer zones are among the primary factors driving wild animals into inhabited areas.
