Spanish Transport Minister: The Assessment of the Train Collision Is Not Final

The Spanish Transport Minister has warned that the casualty figures from the collision between two trains in Andalusia remain provisional, following a serious accident that has claimed dozens of lives and left over a hundred injured.

Increasing Victim Count

According to the minister, the current death toll stands at at least 39 people, with more than 120 injuries reported. He noted that rescue and evacuation operations are ongoing, raising concerns that the toll may rise in the coming hours.

Official Statement Following the Accident

More than twelve hours after the disaster, Transport Minister Óscar Puente stated on the platform X (formerly Twitter) that “the death toll has reached 39, but this is not a final figure,” emphasizing the severity of the accident and the complexity of the rescue operations at the scene.

Minister En Route to the Scene

Óscar Puente also indicated that he was traveling to the site of the accident, in the locality of Adamuz, located about 200 kilometers north of Malaga, to closely monitor the situation and assess the efforts being made by the rescue teams.
