The Moroccan Academy Holds Its Inaugural Meeting on Sustainable Blue Economy
On January 30, 2026, the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco held its first meeting of experts and officials on the theme: “Structuring and Coordinating Policies, Actions, and Scientific Research: Conditions for Achieving an Integrated and Sustainable Blue Economy.” The event, moderated by Professor Miloud Loukili, took place from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Following the opening remarks by the Permanent Secretary of the Academy, several speakers presented their analyses. Abdellah Laouina advocated for effective national coordination within the sector, Driss Dahhak discussed the legal framework related to maritime law, and Mohammed Loulichki emphasized the Atlantic dimension and regional African cooperation.
A roundtable discussion allowed participants to share their areas of expertise and activities related to the blue economy. The debate focused on policy coordination, scientific research, the protection of natural resources, port sectors, fishing, tourism, and mechanisms for financing and data sharing.
Proposals were put forward for a future debate meeting, including topics to be explored further, key stakeholders to invite, and the event format. The conclusions presented by Professor Loukili stressed the need to continue the dialogue to strengthen the structuring and effectiveness of the blue economy in Morocco.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in promoting an integrated and sustainable blue economy, combining institutional coordination, scientific research, and international cooperation.
