The Interprofessional Federation Warns of Challenges in the Poultry Sector Ahead of Ramadan

Challenges in Morocco’s Poultry Sector Ahead of Ramadan
The Interprofessional Federation of the Poultry Sector in Morocco has reported that the production of broiler chicks and white poultry is currently facing critical challenges due to several constraints related to both production and marketing, particularly as Ramadan approaches.
Increased Production and Price Decline
According to a statement from the Federation, industry professionals have aimed to boost production levels to ensure an abundant supply and stable availability. In January 2025, broiler chick production reached approximately 10.4 million units, marking an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2024, while overall poultry production rose by 14%. However, this surge in production has resulted in a steep drop in chick prices, which have fallen to about 0.5 dirhams each—below the cost of production—leading to significant losses for producers.
Selling Prices and the Role of Intermediaries
The statement highlighted that farm-gate prices for broiler chicken have fluctuated between 9 and 12 dirhams per kilogram since the last quarter of 2025. This volatility is attributed to abundant supply and rising production costs related to feed, energy, and veterinary services. Nonetheless, this decline has not been reflected in consumer prices due to imbalances within the marketing system and the involvement of multiple intermediaries.
Delays in Feed Supply
The Federation also noted delays in the delivery of compound feed, caused by weather disruptions affecting the unloading of ships at the ports of Casablanca and Jorf Lasfar. This has led to a shortage of raw materials and stock outages at feed factories.
Call for Urgent Measures
Finally, the Federation emphasized the urgent need for measures to ensure a regular supply of feed and to reorganize production and marketing chains. This is crucial to maintaining stability in supply and prices in the domestic market during the upcoming month of Ramadan.
