Romain Saïss Announces Retirement from International Football

Defender Romain Saïss announced on Monday, February 23, his retirement from international football, marking the end of his journey with the Atlas Lions.

In a message posted on his official Instagram account, Saïss wrote: “Today, I close the most beautiful chapter of my football career. After a long period of reflection and with strong emotions, I announce my retirement from international play.”

The defender emphasized that wearing the colors of Morocco and the captain’s armband will always be the greatest honor of his career: “This jersey transcends the sporting dimension. It embodies a story of roots, family, and heart. Every time I wore it, I felt the weight of responsibility and immense pride.”

He also expressed his gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, highlighting that the royal vision, the work of the federation, and the development of infrastructure have made Morocco a reference point in global football.

Saïss concluded by wishing for a promising future for the national team and affirmed that he will remain a dedicated, passionate supporter, regardless of the circumstances.

In total, Romain Saïss has played 86 international matches since his debut in 2012 and was one of the key figures in Morocco’s historic performance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
