India-Morocco: Jitin Prasada Visits the Imacid Site in Jorf Lasfar
The Indian Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Electronics and Information Technology, Jitin Prasada, concluded his official visit to Morocco on August 25, 2026, with a stop at India-Maroc Phosphore (Imacid) in Jorf Lasfar. This joint venture, involving the Moroccan Phosphate Office (OCP) and Indian partners, stands as a symbol of industrial cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, this visit allowed the Indian official to reflect on the historic partnership between Morocco and India in the phosphate and fertilizer sector, a collaboration that has been flourishing for nearly half a century.
A Strategic Partnership in Phosphates and Fertilizers
During his visit to Imacid, Jitin Prasada highlighted the strong relations between New Delhi and Rabat in the field of phosphates and fertilizers—a strategic sector for India, which ranks among the world’s top fertilizer importers.
The Indian minister described his two-day stay in Morocco as a “fruitful” official visit, marked by several meetings with high-ranking Moroccan officials and dignitaries.
This visit comes against the backdrop of strengthening economic and industrial ties between the two countries, with a clear desire to diversify and deepen areas of cooperation.
Indo-Moroccan Joint Commission Meeting in Rabat
During his stay, Jitin Prasada also co-chaired the seventh session of the Indo-Moroccan Joint Commission in Rabat, alongside Omar Hejira, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Commerce responsible for Foreign Trade.
This commission serves as one of the main institutional frameworks dedicated to enhancing economic exchanges between Morocco and India.
For New Delhi, the relationship between the two countries is built on a “sustainable and mutually beneficial” partnership, supported by a strategic dynamic driven by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and King Mohammed VI.
Strengthened Business Exchanges
The Indian Minister’s visit was also marked by his participation in the Morocco-India Business Forum, as well as several discussions with members of the Moroccan government.
Jitin Prasada also met with representatives of the Indian business community based in Morocco. These discussions focused on prospects for cooperation between companies from both countries across various industrial sectors.
Chemicals, automotive, and pharmaceuticals are among the sectors identified as having significant potential for developing bilateral investments and exchanges.
Imacid: A Key Link in Morocco-India Partnership
Located in Jorf Lasfar, the India-Maroc Phosphore facility produces phosphoric acid primarily for the Indian fertilizer market.
Through Imacid, the partnership between OCP and its Indian partners exemplifies the industrial integration model developed by the Moroccan group to strengthen its relations with international markets, especially in Asia.
Jitin Prasada’s visit to the site sends a clear signal of the importance that Rabat and New Delhi place on their cooperation in phosphates, fertilizers, and, more broadly, on the prospects for developing industrial exchanges between the two countries.
