Caftan Fashion Show: A Celebration of Moroccan Cultural Diplomacy
The "Caftan Fashion Show," held on Wednesday at "Dar Al Maghreb" in Doha, was a true reflection of the strength of Moroccan cultural diplomacy, according to Mohammed Mehdi Bensaid, the Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication. In statements to the press on the sidelines of the event, he emphasized that this show, presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa and Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa Bint Hamad Al-Thani, embodies the 2024 Qatar-Morocco Cultural Year.
Minister Bensaid highlighted that this exceptional event celebrates the ancestral heritage of the caftan while shining a light on the renewal of this authentic Moroccan tradition across the various regions of the Kingdom. He also noted that the ministry is working in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy, as well as with civil society actors and sector professionals to have the "Moroccan Caftan" listed as an UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage by next year.
The fashion show, which attracted nearly 300 guests, showcased 10 Moroccan caftan designers who successfully blended tradition with modernity in unique creations. The event featured musical sequences that illustrated the richness and diversity of Moroccan musical heritage. Several foreign ambassadors and prominent figures from the worlds of art, culture, and economics were also in attendance.
The Qatar-Morocco Cultural Year 2024, initiated by the "Years of Culture," reflects the depth and strength of the historical ties between the two brotherly nations, as well as between their two heads of state, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani.
