Dakhla Atlantic Port: The Future African Hub Reshaping Morocco’s Maritime Strategy

Port Dakhla Atlantic: A Strategic Infrastructure Investment for Morocco

The Port Dakhla Atlantic is gradually establishing itself as one of Morocco’s most ambitious infrastructure projects. Far more than just a port, this maritime platform is set to become a true logistics and industrial hub, connecting the Kingdom with the markets of West Africa, the Sahel, Europe, and the Americas.

Part of the national strategy for developing the Southern Provinces, this project aims to enhance Morocco’s competitiveness on major international trade routes while supporting the economic transformation of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region.

An Infrastructure Designed for Future Trade

The future port complex is designed to accommodate diverse activities, including merchandise transport, fishing, shipbuilding, logistics, and renewable energy.

The project will also be backed by a vast industrial and logistics zone of 1,650 hectares, aimed at attracting national and international investors in high-value sectors.

This platform will help develop new industrial value chains while enhancing the connectivity of Moroccan companies with African and international markets.

A Gateway for Sahel Countries

One of the main ambitions of Port Dakhla Atlantic is to serve as a maritime access point for Sahel countries, facilitating their connection to the Atlantic Ocean.

Thanks to its strategic geographical location, the port is expected to become an essential link in trade exchanges between Morocco, landlocked African countries, and major international maritime routes, thereby strengthening the Kingdom’s role as a continental logistics platform.

A Construction Project Advancing Steadily

Construction is progressing according to the schedule established by the authorities. According to the latest official data, the project is now over 60% complete, while the maritime viaduct, a central element of the project, is finished by more than 85%. More than 1,800 workers are continuously mobilized to accelerate the realization of this strategic infrastructure.

The port is scheduled to begin operation by 2028.

A Catalyst for Industrialization and Employment

Beyond its logistical role, Port Dakhla Atlantic is expected to boost the regional economy through the establishment of new industries, the development of port activities, and the creation of thousands of direct and indirect jobs.

The project will also support the development of strategic sectors such as the processing of seafood products, logistics, shipbuilding, green hydrogen, and renewable energy.

By strengthening its Atlantic façade, Morocco aims to consolidate its status as an African economic hub and a key platform for trade between Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
