Wahbi: “The friendly matches against Ecuador and Paraguay… a good test for the 2026 World Cup”

Wahbi, the head coach of the Moroccan national team, stated this Thursday that the two friendly matches of the “Atlas Lions” against Ecuador and Paraguay represent “a good test” as the team prepares for the 2026 World Cup.

During a press conference held at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora, Wahbi presented the list of players called up for these two matches scheduled for the end of March, emphasizing that “both opponents are strong” and will pose a real challenge for the national team.

A Test of Competitiveness

The coach explained that these matches will allow the coaching staff to evaluate “the competitiveness level of the national team” and work towards ensuring that Morocco is “in the best possible shape, in an intense competition context, just months before an important global event.”

These friendly matches will also measure Morocco’s capabilities against opponents known for their robustness while refining the tactical and personnel choices of the technical staff.

A Defined Playing Identity

Wahbi clarified that his goal is to solidify a clear playing identity for the national team, rather than focus solely on the style of the opponents. These matches will especially help strengthen the cohesion of the group and lay the groundwork for a “competitive team” for the World Cup.

Schedule of Friendly Matches

Morocco will kick off its friendly matches against Ecuador on Friday, March 27, in Madrid, Spain, followed by a match against Paraguay on Tuesday, March 31, in Lens, France.

These two matches are part of the national team’s preparation for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The draw has placed Morocco in Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti.
