Arrest of Two French Nationals in Marrakech During Joint Operation Between Moroccan Police and French Authorities

Last Sunday, elements of the Marrakech Prefectural Judicial Police, in collaboration with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), apprehended two French nationals who were the subjects of international arrest warrants and red notices issued by the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL).

The investigations conducted led to the location of the two suspects, aged 28 and 38, prior to a reinforced security operation resulting in their arrest in Marrakech, according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

The arrest was made as part of cooperation between Moroccan security services and French authorities. According to initial information from the investigation, the two suspects are accused of being involved in a premeditated murder within a criminal network that targeted employees of a French correctional facility on May 14, 2024. This operation is also linked to the escape of a French detainee of Algerian origin, Mohamed Amra, who was recently arrested in Romania.

The suspects are also suspected of multiple other crimes, including illegal possession of firearms, armed robbery, fraud, attempted murder, as well as acts of vandalism and destruction of public and private property.

The two men have been placed in custody as part of the judicial investigation, and French authorities have been notified to initiate extradition procedures, in line with international cooperation.

This operation underscores the commitment of the Moroccan security services, the DGSN and the DGST, to strengthen international security cooperation and illustrates the robustness of bilateral collaboration between Morocco and France in matters of common security.
