Morocco: A Benchmark in Agriculture and Agro-Food Industry (Senegalese Minister)

Senegalese Minister Praises Morocco as a Model for Agriculture and Agro-food Industries

Senegal’s Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Livestock, Mabouba Diagne, stated in Rabat on Monday that Morocco serves as a benchmark in the fields of agriculture and agro-food industries.

In remarks to the press following discussions with Moroccan Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, Mr. Diagne praised the remarkable advancements made by Morocco in agriculture, livestock, horticulture, and food industries, highlighting the comprehensive agricultural value chains developed in the country.

"The Kingdom of Morocco today stands as a reference model in this field, and its successful experience provides a significant source of cooperation and expertise sharing across all value chains in these sectors," he emphasized.

In this context, the Senegalese minister pointed out that his country imports over $1.6 billion worth of food products annually, viewing these needs as a major opportunity for cooperation between the two nations.

He called on the Moroccan private sector to invest in Senegal, emphasizing the abundance of water resources and the vast arable land available. "We are working, in partnership with the Senegalese private sector, to build and develop domestic production to ensure food security for the population and contribute to their well-being," he declared, also recalling the presence of Moroccan banking institutions in Senegal that can support industrial operators in their projects.

For his part, Mr. El Bouari reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to supporting agricultural development in Senegal, expressing the Kingdom’s willingness to share its expertise to strengthen Senegal’s agriculture.

"In a spirit of partnership and mutual complementarity, both countries can work together to develop the agricultural sector within their respective territories," he added.

This meeting falls within the framework of the 15th session of the Morocco-Senegal Joint Partnership Commission.
