Aziz Akhannouch Announces His Departure from the Presidency of the RNI

Aziz Akhannouch Announces He Will Not Seek Third Term as RNI Leader
Aziz Akhannouch has announced that he will not seek a third term at the helm of the National Rally of Independents (RNI), thus concluding his leadership journey with the party after his second term. This decision was made public following a meeting of the party’s political bureau.
Describing this gathering as "one of the most moving" of his career, Akhannouch indicated that members of the leadership had urged him to take on another mandate, but he chose to remain true to the party’s principles.
Respect for Party Statutes and Internal Governance
The outgoing president of the RNI explained that his refusal of a third term is grounded in his commitment to upholding the party’s statutes and internal governance rules. He emphasized that political credibility is fundamentally linked to adherence to institutional regulations.
Extraordinary Congress Scheduled in El Jadida
In this context, the RNI will hold an extraordinary congress on February 7 in El Jadida, aiming to elect a new president. The political bureau has also approved the list of members for the preparatory committee responsible for organizing this congress.
The application process for candidacies for the party presidency will be open from January 12 to 21 at the RNI’s central headquarters in Rabat.
Support for Policies Favoring the Amazigh Language
Additionally, the political bureau of the RNI commended government measures aimed at strengthening the implementation of the official status of the Amazigh language, particularly in the realms of education, administration, media, and culture. The party believes these initiatives contribute to the preservation of Moroccan national identity and the consolidation of values pertaining to pluralism and cultural diversity.
A Positive Government Assessment
The political bureau also expressed its satisfaction with the government’s achievements, which it deemed "exceptional," especially in the economic and social realms. According to the RNI, these results are corroborated by various indicators from national and international institutions.
Reforms and Governance at the Core of Priorities
These advancements are attributed to significant reform choices made by the Executive and the gradual implementation of structural projects, such as the expansion of social protection, support for investment, and the strengthening of social cohesion.
However, the party emphasized the need to continue these efforts, improve the effectiveness of public policies, and reinforce the principles of good governance to ensure the sustainability of these gains.
Internal Party Life and a New Publication
Finally, the political bureau celebrated the success of the regular session of the RNI’s National Council, considering it a reflection of the party’s positive dynamics and the consolidation of internal democracy.
The meeting was also marked by Mustapha Baitas presenting a new publication from the party titled "The Path of Achievements," based on twelve communication tours that engaged over 38,000 participants, as well as results from the "Independents Discussions" held in 77 municipalities across the Kingdom.
