Trump Suspends “Project Freedom” in the Strait of Hormuz to Facilitate an Agreement with Iran

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday evening the temporary suspension of the American maritime escort operation, “Project Freedom,” in the Strait of Hormuz. This decision aims to pave the way for a possible agreement with Iran and to ease tensions in the region.
A Strategic Pause to Foster Diplomacy
In a message published on the Truth Social platform, Donald Trump specified that the operation will be suspended “for a short period” to allow for a potential agreement with Tehran.
This decision comes as discussions appear to be progressing among the various parties involved in the conflict.
A Decision Influenced by International Partners
The American president noted that this suspension was taken at the request of several countries, including Pakistan, while also emphasizing the “military success” of recent operations conducted against Iran.
According to him, these advancements have led to significant progress towards a comprehensive and lasting agreement.
A Ceasefire Still in Place
For his part, U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed that the ceasefire with Iran remains intact.
He clarified that Washington is currently working on stabilizing the situation to allow for the normal resumption of trade in this strategically important area for global commerce.
Recent Tensions in the Strait of Hormuz
The suspension of the operation follows recent incidents in the Strait of Hormuz, where American forces intercepted and destroyed several Iranian vessels accused of targeting ships from third countries, including a South Korean cargo ship.
These events have raised concerns about maritime security in this key region.
The decision to suspend “Project Freedom” reflects a desire for de-escalation and a revival of diplomatic dialogue between the United States and Iran. It could mark an important step towards reducing tensions in the Gulf and securing international maritime routes.
