On May 8 and 9, 2026, Marrakech will host the 58th Annual Conference of the Habitat and Francophonie Network (RHF), centered around the theme: “Towards an Integrated Approach to Sustainable Affordable Housing.”

Relevant International Event: Housing Conference in the Francophone Space
This international conference will bring together key players in the housing sector from the Francophone world — public decision-makers, operators, experts, and institutional partners — to address major housing challenges.
Organized by the Al Omrane Group under the auspices of the Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Urbanism, Housing, and City Policy, this event marks the fifth edition of the conference in Morocco, following previous gatherings in 1989, 1999, 2004, and 2015. This continuity illustrates the strength of the partnership with the Habitat and Francophonie Network.
In line with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist him, this meeting aims to enhance cooperation among Francophone countries to tackle challenges related to the production of affordable housing, the reduction of territorial imbalances, the anticipation of demographic and climatic changes, and the sustainable management of land.
It also serves as a high-level platform dedicated to dialogue, exchange of expertise, and sharing of best practices through a structured program featuring plenary sessions and thematic panels led by public officials and national and international experts.
These initiatives align closely with the vision promoted by the Kingdom, particularly His Majesty the King’s call for a renewed effort to upgrade territories and transition towards integrated territorial development, with housing serving as a central lever encompassing social, economic, and environmental dimensions.
In this context, this edition underscores Morocco’s commitment to innovative, sustainable, and accessible housing models while strengthening its position as a platform for dialogue and cooperation within the Francophone sphere.
This momentum is supported by significant results stemming from a strategy that combines public intervention with private sector mobilization. This approach has successfully reduced the housing deficit, which was estimated at approximately 1.24 million units in 2002, to nearly 334,000 units by the end of 2024.
These advancements are built upon structural programs such as “Cities without Slums,” guarantee mechanisms (FOGARIM, Damane Assakane), public-private partnerships, and the "Daam Sakane" program (2024-2028), which is based on direct assistance to homebuyers.
The discussions at this 58th edition will revolve around several thematic panels focusing on: the major housing challenges in the Francophone space, the sustainability of affordable housing, rehabilitation, resilience and reconstruction to address territorial challenges, territorial governance, and partnerships for sustainable housing, along with technological innovation and sustainable materials applied to housing, engaging international institutions, the state, local communities, and the private sector.
Ultimately, the organization of this event reaffirms the international stature of the Kingdom of Morocco and the city of Marrakech as a premier destination for major international gatherings.
