Casablanca Launches Its Massive Waste Disposal and Recovery Center

Casablanca Launches Major Waste Management Project
On Friday, May 8, 2026, the city of Casablanca officially launched a significant project focused on landfill and waste recovery—a major infrastructure initiative aimed at modernizing waste management in Morocco’s economic metropolis.
This project is part of a broader reform effort in the cleanliness sector, with the goal of enhancing household waste treatment and strengthening sustainable environmental management solutions.
A Modern Infrastructure Focused on Recovery
The future center will integrate several specialized units, including sorting, recycling, and leachate treatment facilities, as well as systems dedicated to waste recovery. The aim is to gradually reduce reliance on traditional landfilling while promoting a circular economy through the recovery of recyclable materials and the production of alternative resources derived from waste.
An Initiative Aligned with National Policies
This project is aligned with the national household waste management program, coordinated with the relevant authorities, and aims to modernize landfills and create recovery centers across various regions of the Kingdom. It is expected to enhance Casablanca’s environmental performance while mitigating the ecological impact of traditional landfills in the face of urban growth.
Toward a More Sustainable City
Ultimately, this center is set to profoundly transform waste management in the economic capital by introducing advanced technologies and stricter environmental standards, thereby reinforcing Casablanca’s commitment to sustainable urban development.
