Morocco–United States: Towards Strengthening the Free Trade Agreement

The recent meeting of the joint commission overseeing the Morocco-U.S. free trade agreement, held in Rabat, focused on reinforcing this partnership. The objective is to invigorate trade and improve economic flows between the two nations.

A Meeting to Strengthen Economic Partnership

The ninth session of the joint commission for the Morocco-U.S. free trade agreement took place on Monday, May 11, in Rabat, featuring representatives from the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office and a high-level Moroccan delegation.

This gathering is part of efforts to enhance the strategic partnership between Rabat and Washington, particularly amid the changing dynamics of the global economy and disruptions in supply chains.

Toward Improved Trade Relations

During the discussions, the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Ryad Mezzour, emphasized the importance of bolstering bilateral economic cooperation and achieving a more balanced trade relationship.

The two parties also explored ways to streamline commercial procedures, improve customs systems, and expand access for various Moroccan products to the U.S. market.

Morocco as a Regional Economic Hub

The discussions highlighted Morocco’s role as a regional economic hub and gateway to African markets, strengthening its position in global value chains and its attractiveness for foreign investments.

This dialogue aligns with the ongoing revision of the free trade agreement signed between the two countries in 2006, aimed at adapting it to new economic and trade realities.
