Tomatoes: Morocco Doubles Its Exports to Finland and Secures Its Breakthrough in the Nordic Market

Moroccan Tomato Exports to Finland Surge
Moroccan tomato exports to Finland are experiencing remarkable growth during the 2025/2026 season, with volumes doubling within a year to reach a record high. This performance highlights Morocco’s strengthened presence in Northern European markets and its ability to diversify its agricultural outlets.
According to sector data disseminated by specialized platforms like EastFruit, Finland imported approximately 2,200 tons of Moroccan tomatoes between July 2025 and February 2026, amounting to an estimated value of nearly €6 million.
Growth Driven by Direct Exports
This increase can be primarily attributed to the rise in direct shipments from Morocco, as well as the gradual reorganization of European logistical channels. Moroccan exporters are increasingly favoring direct deliveries, which enhances product visibility in Finnish markets.
This structural change represents a significant shift in trade dynamics, which have traditionally been dominated by redistribution platforms located in Western Europe.
Historic Trade Between Morocco and Finland
This performance not only signifies a doubling compared to the previous season but also surpasses the cumulative volumes of the last two campaigns. Furthermore, it sets a historic record in agricultural trade between the two countries, exceeding the previous peak recorded during the 2022/2023 season by nearly 50%.
Ongoing Strong European Competition
Despite this progression, the Finnish market is predominantly dominated by the Netherlands and Spain, which account for the majority of imported tomatoes, especially during the winter months.
However, Morocco continues to gain market share, particularly thanks to its direct export strategy to Nordic countries, including Finland, as well as other markets like Denmark and Norway.
Confirmed Diversification Strategy
This momentum aligns with Morocco’s broader strategy to diversify its agricultural exports. The Kingdom is progressively solidifying its position among the leading tomato suppliers in the European market, focusing on quality, competitiveness, and direct access to end markets.
This evolution also underscores Morocco’s growing role in international agro-food supply chains.
