Cereal Campaign 2026: Morocco Aims for 90 Million Quintals and Strengthens Its Storage Capacity

Promising Outlook for Morocco’s 2025-2026 Grain Campaign

The 2025-2026 grain campaign in Morocco is shaping up to be particularly promising, with projected production estimated at nearly 90 million quintals. In tandem, authorities and industry professionals aim to achieve a strategic storage goal of 15 million quintals to enhance national food security.

This momentum signifies a notable rebound following several years marked by drought and tensions in agricultural markets.

Unprecedented Storage Target

The new grain marketing system has set a storage target of approximately 17% of the expected production for the 2026 campaign. This measure aims to improve the country’s reserve capabilities and better manage market fluctuations.

Industry professionals emphasize that this effort is especially crucial as several years of drought have weakened the storage capacities of specialized organizations.

Benchmark Price Set for Soft Wheat

Within this framework, the benchmark price for soft wheat has been established at 280 dirhams per quintal. Storage premiums will also be offered during the period from June 1 to July 31, 2026, to encourage storage operations.

These measures aim to stabilize the market and support the national grain marketing chain.

Significant Improvement in Agricultural Production

The favorable outlook for this campaign can primarily be attributed to the recent return of rainfall recorded over the past few months, following a prolonged period of water deficit. The Ministry of Agriculture had already announced a marked improvement in agricultural conditions due to more abundant and well-distributed rainfall.

The area planted with grains has reached nearly 3.9 million hectares, contributing to the anticipated rise in national production.

Expected Recovery of the Agricultural Sector

This improvement is also expected to positively impact agricultural GDP growth, especially given the sector’s strong dependence on climatic conditions.

Authorities are banking on this recovery to bolster the country’s food security, support rural incomes, and strengthen the balances of the national agricultural market.

Strategic Challenge for Food Sovereignty

Beyond the volumes produced, the question of storage has become a strategic lever in Morocco’s agricultural policy. The goal is to better anticipate periods of tension in international markets and enhance the Kingdom’s resilience to climatic and economic uncertainties.

Thus, the 2026 grain campaign appears to be a significant turning point for national agriculture, following several challenging years marked by drought.
