Mhidia Plans 24/7 Operations to Alleviate Congestion at Terminals

The governor of the Casablanca-Settat region, Mohamed Mhidia, held a meeting with port authorities, economic operators, and transportation professionals to find solutions to the ongoing congestion at the Port of Casablanca.

This situation negatively impacts logistics operations and extends the processing times for goods.

Toward Continuous Port Operations

Among the main measures under consideration is the implementation of a continuous operation model for the port, running 24 hours a day. This option aims to enhance the capacity for handling container traffic and expedite loading and unloading operations.

The authorities believe that this approach would help alleviate pressure on the terminals and improve the overall performance of the port.

Extending Depot Hours Until 10 PM

While awaiting this reform, it is also recommended to extend the opening hours of logistics depots until 10 PM. This measure is particularly intended to facilitate the return of empty containers and reduce congestion during peak hours.

A Response to Persistent Saturation

The Port of Casablanca has been experiencing significant saturation for several months due to increased commercial traffic. The proposed measures are part of a broader strategy to relieve congestion and improve operational efficiency.

Modernizing Logistics Infrastructure

This initiative fits within a larger process aimed at modernizing port infrastructures in Morocco, with the goal of enhancing the Kingdom’s logistical competitiveness and adapting the capabilities of the Port of Casablanca to the growing international trade.
