Casablanca: Construction of the New Bab Marrakech Market Progresses to 60%

The reconstruction project of the historic Bab Marrakech market in Casablanca has reached a significant milestone, with work progress estimated at 60%. This major commercial infrastructure is part of the expansive program aimed at revitalizing and enhancing the old medina of the economic metropolis.

According to information provided by project officials, the future covered market will span approximately 7,000 square meters and will feature modern amenities aimed at improving working conditions for merchants and enhancing the visitor experience. The infrastructure will also include an underground parking facility to address mobility needs in this high-traffic area.

The reconstruction follows the demolition of the previous site at the beginning of 2025. Since then, merchants have been relocated to a temporary market set up near the Hassan II Mosque to ensure the continuity of their activities during the construction period.

The project, entrusted to the Benlhou Frères company, is backed by a revised budget of 80 million dirhams, with a completion timeline set at 18 months. This initiative is one of the key levers for economic revitalization in the historic center of Casablanca, aiming to bolster the commercial appeal of the old medina.

Through this operation, local authorities seek to preserve the historical role of the Bab Marrakech market while providing modern infrastructure that meets the current demands of urban commerce.
