The largest French ship of CMA CGM docks at Tanger Med.
The Port of Tanger Med welcomed the CMA CGM NOTRE DAME on Monday, one of the largest container ships in the world, during its stop at the TC2 container terminal. This arrival once again confirms the strategic position of Tanger Med as an essential platform for international maritime trade and a major port hub in the Mediterranean and Africa.
A Next-Generation Vessel Supporting Trade Between Asia and Europe
Assigned to the French Asia Line (FAL 3), which connects major Asian ports with European destinations, the CMA CGM NOTRE DAME is powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), a technology that helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions in maritime transport.
The ship will now be part of the regular stops at Tanger Med, thus strengthening the strategic partnership between the CMA CGM group and the Moroccan port complex.
CMA CGM Reaffirms Its Confidence in Morocco’s Potential
Florian Goupil, General Director of CMA CGM Morocco, emphasized that Tanger Med plays a crucial role in the group’s global network.
According to him, the arrival of this vessel, considered the largest flying the French flag, illustrates CMA CGM’s commitment to investing in innovation and accelerating the transition to a more environmentally friendly maritime transport.
He also highlighted the group’s long-standing presence in Morocco and its continuous investments in national port infrastructure, reflecting its confidence in the development of Moroccan foreign trade.
An Infrastructure Capable of Accommodating the World’s Largest Ships
For his part, Adil Aït Oualil, Director of Maritime Operations at the Port Authority of Tanger Med, noted that this stop demonstrates the operational performance of the port and its ability to accommodate the largest operating container ships.
He specified that in 2025, Tanger Med recorded nearly 17,000 stops, including around 1,300 made by ships over 290 meters in length. These results were made possible thanks to world-class infrastructure, high terminal productivity, and the expertise of teams engaged in piloting, port authority, and port services.
