Medical Cannabis: Morocco Has the Products, but Physicians’ Acceptance Remains a Challenge

Morocco Advances in Medical Cannabis Development

Morocco is actively advancing its medical cannabis sector, achieving significant progress in the production and transformation of therapeutic products. However, despite the establishment of a regulatory framework and the emergence of a local supply, the main challenge now lies in the acceptance of these treatments by the medical community.

Following the legalization of medical and industrial cannabis use, several Moroccan operators have invested in the cultivation, processing, and manufacturing of products that meet international pharmaceutical standards. Today, the Kingdom offers a range of therapeutic solutions targeted at specific conditions, including chronic pain, neurological disorders, and palliative care.

Nevertheless, the market remains in its infancy. Industry professionals indicate that many doctors remain cautious about prescribing cannabis-based medications due to a lack of information, clinical experience, or specific training related to these new treatments.

Key stakeholders in the sector believe that the development of medical cannabis in Morocco will necessitate significant awareness and training efforts directed at healthcare professionals. The goal is to increase knowledge about therapeutic indications, prescribing protocols, and the results of available international scientific studies.

This situation is not unique to Morocco. In several countries that have legalized medical cannabis, physician adoption has often been gradual, requiring scientific and regulatory support to facilitate the integration of these treatments into routine medical practices.

Meanwhile, Moroccan operators continue their efforts to structure the sector and develop market opportunities, both domestically and for export. The Kingdom aims to position itself as a reference point in the production of high-value medical cannabis.

For industry professionals, the current challenge is to create a comprehensive ecosystem that brings together producers, manufacturers, researchers, health authorities, and practitioners to enable this emerging industry to fully realize its economic and therapeutic potential.
