OCP Nutricrops Resumes Full Capacity Fertilizer Production in Response to Strong Global Demand

OCP Nutricrops Plans Full Production Recovery
OCP Nutricrops, a subsidiary of the OCP Group specializing in phosphate fertilizers, expects to return to full production capacity by the end of June, following a temporary reduction of approximately 30% in its activity during the second quarter of 2026.
This decrease had been anticipated by the company as part of scheduled maintenance operations, amid a significant rise in sulfur prices, a key raw material for the production of certain fertilizers.
Sustained Global Demand
According to OCP Nutricrops, this recovery is primarily driven by the return of seasonal demand in several strategic agricultural markets. The company emphasizes that global fertilizer demand remains particularly strong as planting and crop development periods approach.
While geopolitical tensions contribute to tighter supply in the international market, the group believes that the current momentum is mainly tied to seasonal agricultural needs observed in various regions worldwide.
TSP Gains Importance in the Group’s Strategy
In response to rising sulfur costs, OCP Nutricrops has increased the production of Triple Superphosphate (TSP), a phosphate fertilizer that requires less sulfur and does not require ammonia, unlike Diammonium Phosphate (DAP).
This strategic shift has led to a significant increase in the share of TSP within the subsidiary’s overall production. It now accounts for approximately 65% of the volumes produced, up from nearly 30% in 2025.
The company attributes this change to a growing demand for this fertilizer, which is particularly suited for the early stages of crop development.
Brazil, Africa, and Europe Support Demand
The growth in demand is notably supported by major agricultural markets such as Brazil and several African countries, where phosphate fertilizers play a central role in improving agricultural yields.
Crops requiring more phosphorus and less nitrogen, such as soybeans and certain legumes, also promote the use of TSP.
In Europe, agricultural policies focused on sustainability and reducing nitrogen inputs also contribute to heightened interest in this type of fertilizer.
OCP Continues to Expand Its Capacities
This recovery occurs as the OCP Group continues its ambitious industrial expansion program. The group’s phosphate fertilizer production capacity has increased from 3 million tons in 2008 to a projected capacity of 16 million metric tons by 2025.
With this ramp-up, OCP solidifies its position among the global leaders in the sector and strengthens its role in global food security through the supply of key agricultural markets.
