Rabat Hosts the Permanent Headquarters of African Capitals of Culture

Rabat’s Cultural Emergence on the African Stage

The city of Rabat has taken a significant step in its continental cultural influence with the official inauguration of the permanent headquarters of the African Capitals of Culture. This new establishment will be responsible for coordinating the program across the continent, supporting future host cities, and enhancing cultural exchanges among African countries.

This initiative underscores Morocco’s growing role in promoting African cultural cooperation and in developing projects that foster dialogue between the continent’s peoples.

A Coordination Center for Future Editions

The Permanent Secretariat of the African Capitals of Culture will be tasked with supporting the organization of upcoming editions of the program, developing cultural and institutional partnerships, and promoting culture as a driver for economic, social, and tourism development.

The objective is also to highlight the richness of African heritage, encourage the movement of artists and creators, and enhance the visibility of African culture on the international stage.

A Legacy from the Event Held in Rabat

This inauguration follows the first edition of the African Capitals of Culture, held in Rabat in 2022-2023 under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

This event enabled the Moroccan capital to host numerous artistic, cultural, and intellectual activities, showcasing the cultural diversity of the African continent.

Looking Ahead to the 2028 Edition in Cape Verde

The program is now gearing up for its next major milestone with the organization of the 2028 edition in Cape Verde. This designation was formalized through the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Committee of African Capitals of Culture and the Cape Verdean authorities.

This new edition aims to continue the momentum initiated by Rabat and further strengthen cultural ties between the various regions of the continent.

Morocco Strengthens Its Cultural Leadership in Africa

By hosting the permanent headquarters of the African Capitals of Culture, Morocco consolidates its position as a key player in the arena of African cultural cooperation.

This initiative aligns with the Kingdom’s strategy to enhance South-South exchanges, promote African heritage, and position culture as a vehicle for sustainable development and international influence.
