Morocco Ranks as Nigeria’s Fourth Largest African Supplier with $49.5 Million in Exports

Morocco Strengthens Its Presence in African Markets
Morocco continues to solidify its presence in African markets, climbing to the fourth position among Nigeria’s main suppliers in the first quarter of 2026. This performance underscores the growing momentum of Moroccan exports to Africa’s most populous economy.
According to data released by Nigeria’s National Bureau of Statistics, Moroccan exports to Nigeria reached approximately $49.5 million (nearly €43 million) between January and March 2026. This figure accounts for around 10.5% of Nigeria’s imports from the African continent.
Morocco stands behind South Africa, which leads with over $112 million, followed closely by Angola at approximately $105 million and Egypt at $50.5 million. However, Morocco surpasses several other African nations, affirming its status as one of Nigeria’s key trading partners on the continent.
The top five African suppliers together constitute more than 72% of Nigeria’s imports from Africa, highlighting a significant concentration of trade around a few major economies on the continent.
On a global scale, Nigeria’s imports totaled $9.83 billion during the studied period, predominantly dominated by Asia, followed by the Americas and Europe. China remains the country’s largest global supplier, well ahead of the United States.
Despite this progress, Africa’s share of Nigeria’s imports remains limited to less than 5%, while Asian products continue to dominate the market.
This trend confirms the gradual rise of Moroccan exports in Africa, set against a backdrop of intense international competition and the ongoing dominance of Asian supply chains.
