Hapag-Lloyd Plans to Double Its Stake in the TC3 Terminal at Tangier Med Port

The German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd seeks to strengthen its presence in Morocco. According to various sources, the shipping line plans to increase its stake in the TC3 container terminal at Tanger Med from 10% to 20%. This move underscores the strategic importance of the Moroccan port complex in international logistics chains.
Hapag-Lloyd Doubles Down on Tanger Med
Hapag-Lloyd continues its strategic development in port infrastructure and is looking to enhance its presence in Morocco.
According to several sources, the German shipping company aims to elevate its participation in the TC3 container terminal at Tanger Med from 10% to 20%, thereby solidifying its commitment to one of the largest port hubs in the Mediterranean.
This increase in stake aligns with a strategy to secure the group’s terminal capacities in response to the evolving landscape of global maritime trade.
An International Development Strategy
The project concerning Tanger Med coincides with another operation by Hanseatic Global Terminals, a subsidiary of Hapag-Lloyd.
The latter has signed a letter of intent to acquire a 20% stake in the Eurogate Container Terminal Hamburg in Germany, illustrating the group’s commitment to enhancing its portfolio of port assets on strategic logistics platforms.
Tanger Med Confirms Its Role as a Global Hub
For Morocco, this operation represents another sign of confidence in the potential of the Tanger Med port.
By considering a plan to double its share in the TC3 terminal, Hapag-Lloyd affirms the central role of the Moroccan port complex in its international network and in the organization of goods flows between Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas.
This development occurs at a time when major shipping companies are striving to better control their port infrastructures to optimize their logistics chains and enhance the fluidity of maritime transport.
