Wildfires: Maximum Alert in Several Provinces of Morocco from July 6 to 12

The National Agency for Water and Forests (ANEF) has released a new forecast map identifying areas at risk for wildfires during the period from July 6 to July 12, 2026. This update, developed from scientific data, aims to anticipate fire outbreaks and enhance national preventive measures.

This assessment is based on several criteria, including the type of forest cover, levels of flammability, weather forecasts, and the topographical characteristics of various regions.

Twelve Provinces Classified as Extreme Risk

ANEF identified an extreme risk level in the provinces of Berkane, Nador, Taourirt, Guercif, Ifrane, Taounate, Taza, Khénifra, Al Haouz, Essaouira, Agadir Ida-Outanane, and Taroudant.

These areas currently exhibit conditions highly conducive to the ignition and rapid spread of wildfires.

Several Regions on High Alert

The high risk level also applies to several provinces, including Chefchaouen, Fahs-Anjra, Larache, Ouazzane, Tanger-Assilah, Tétouan, M’diq-Fnideq, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Fès, Kénitra, Rabat, Salé, Skhirate-Témara, Azilal, Béni Mellal, Chichaoua, and Midelt.

Additionally, a moderate risk level has been noted in the provinces of Al Hoceïma, Driouch, Meknès, El Hajeb, Boulemane, Sefrou, Sidi Kacem, and Khémisset.

A Call for Vigilance

In light of this situation, the National Agency for Water and Forests urges residents living near forested areas, forestry professionals, as well as summer vacationers and visitors to exercise utmost caution.

The agency recommends avoiding any behavior that could spark a fire, especially the reckless use of fire or the disposal of flammable waste. Citizens are also encouraged to immediately report any suspicious smoke or behavior that might pose a fire risk to the relevant authorities.

With the high temperatures recorded during this summer period, authorities remind everyone that prevention and responsiveness are the best measures to protect Morocco’s forests and limit the impact of wildfires on communities and ecosystems.
