Airports in Morocco: Major Projects to Support the Growth of Air Traffic
The Moroccan aviation sector is experiencing significant momentum, prompting the National Airports Office (ONDA) to launch an extensive investment program aimed at modernizing infrastructure and enhancing the capacity of the Kingdom’s airports by 2028.
Air Traffic on the Rise
In 2025, Moroccan airports recorded the passage of 36.3 million travelers, generating a record revenue of 5.848 billion dirhams, marking an 11% increase compared to the previous year.
In this context, the ONDA board of directors, chaired by Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh, approved a new budgetary and operational roadmap designed to support this sustained growth.
A Major Project in Casablanca
At the heart of this strategy is Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca, which welcomed nearly 11 million passengers in 2025, cementing its role as the Kingdom’s primary air hub.
To accommodate this surge, the ONDA has initiated the construction of a new terminal, touted as the largest investment ever made by the organization. This project aims to enhance Morocco’s international connectivity and solidify Casablanca’s status as a strategic regional platform.
Modernization of Regional Airports
The transformation momentum also extends to several regional infrastructures under the “Airports 2030” strategy.
Airports in Tangier, Tetouan, Marrakech, Agadir, and Rabat will thus benefit from significant renovation and expansion works to improve service quality and increase capacity.
A Sustainable Transformation of the Airport Network
The ONDA emphasizes that these projects are part of a comprehensive vision to modernize the national airport network, with a particular focus on adhering to deadlines, safety standards, and international norms.
Through these major projects, Morocco aims to strengthen its positioning as a regional hub for air transport, tourism, and investments, set against a backdrop of ongoing growth in the sector.
