Electric Batteries: BTR Confirms Progress on Its Industrial Projects in Tanger Tech

BTR New Material Group Advances Industrial Projects in Morocco
The Chinese group BTR New Material Group, a global leader in electric battery materials, recently provided an update on its industrial projects located within the Tanger Tech zone. This meeting comes amidst Morocco’s rising significance in the global electric vehicle battery value chain.
During a recent steering committee meeting, the group’s leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the timeline for operationalizing their planned industrial units by 2026.
Two Key Factories for Electric Battery Production
The project involves the development of two major industrial facilities dedicated to producing cathodes and anodes, essential components in the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries.
These infrastructures represent an overall investment estimated to exceed 6 billion dirhams, with significant production capacity aimed at supporting the growth of the electric vehicle market.
An Investment Creating Jobs and Industrial Value
Beyond the technological aspect, the project is expected to generate more than 1,100 direct jobs, thereby contributing to the development of Morocco’s industrial ecosystem, particularly in the Tangier region.
This initiative aligns with the country’s national strategy to reinforce Morocco’s position as a competitive industrial platform within the energy transition sectors.
Morocco’s Emergence in Electric Mobility
BTR’s establishment in Tanger Tech signifies Morocco’s gradual integration into the global electric mobility value chains. The Kingdom is increasingly attracting investments in green industries, bolstered by its industrial infrastructure, stability, and strategic geographic position.
This progression also reinforces the nation’s ambition to become a regional hub for the production of components for electric vehicles.
An Industrial Dynamic Aiming for 2026
According to the group’s forecasts, the commissioning of the units is still scheduled for 2026, a crucial milestone that is set to mark the operational launch of this new industrial sector in Morocco.
With this project, Tanger Tech solidifies its role as a major hub for attracting high-tech industries and investments linked to the global energy transition.
