GigaLab Appoints Mohammed Aiouche as Deputy General Director Amidst Expansion Plans
Moroccan group GigaLab, specialized in manufacturing medical diagnostic solutions and distributing laboratory equipment, has announced the appointment of Mohammed Aiouche as Deputy General Director. This decision comes at a time of industrial and commercial development, as the company aims to enhance its production capabilities and accelerate its expansion into African and international markets.
With over thirty years of experience in medical devices and in vitro diagnostics, the new leader brings expertise in operations management and business development. His arrival aligns with the growth ambitions of a group that seeks to solidify its position in the Moroccan market while expanding its international presence.
A Moroccan Industrial Group Based in Casablanca
Founded in 2007 by Dr. Karim Zaher, GigaLab is headquartered in Casablanca and operates two industrial sites in Had Soualem and Bouskoura. Its business model is based on two complementary activities: the manufacturing of products for medical analysis and the marketing of laboratory equipment sourced from international manufacturers.
The group notably develops rapid tests for screening infectious diseases, cardiovascular conditions, and certain types of cancer, alongside solutions dedicated to women’s health.
Additionally, GigaLab’s industrial offerings include chromogenic culture media used for bacterial identification, laboratory consumables, and optical instruments such as microscopes. This diversity enables the company to meet the various needs of healthcare professionals and specialized facilities in biological analysis.
Medical Diagnostics: A Diverse Offering Across Specialties
In addition to its production capabilities, GigaLab distributes automated systems and equipment across multiple medical diagnostics disciplines. Its catalog covers various areas including blood analyses, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, and autoimmune disease diagnostics.
The group also supports its clients through technical services that include equipment installation, calibration, and maintenance. Providing reagents and user assistance are also part of the services offered.
This organizational structure allows GigaLab to cater to a diverse clientele that includes public hospitals, private laboratories, and research organizations.
Tests Designed and Manufactured in Morocco
GigaLab positions itself as a pioneer in the manufacturing of rapid antigen tests in Africa. Among its achievements is the GLD HIV-1+2, touted by the company as the first rapid HIV screening test entirely designed and produced in Morocco that has received official regulatory approval.
Furthermore, the group holds the "Made in Morocco" label, awarded by the Moroccan Institute for Standardization (IMANOR). Its industrial operations also rely on various certifications, including ISO 13485:2016 certified by Bureau Veritas, ISO 9001 certification, and CE marking.
These elements underscore the company’s industrial positioning, focused on the local production of diagnostic solutions and the development of skills in a sector demanding high standards of quality and regulatory compliance.
Africa at the Core of Expansion Strategy
Already present in Morocco, GigaLab markets its solutions in several countries across West and Central Africa, as well as the Middle East. The company reports having supplied millions of diagnostic tests to healthcare institutions.
To support this dynamic, the group plans to develop distribution platforms across the African continent. The goal is to facilitate the supply of healthcare establishments in both major cities and rural areas, where access to diagnostic equipment and products can be notably challenging.
This strategy aims to consolidate the group’s commercial opportunities while enhancing its ability to meet the needs of African healthcare systems.
Research and Development as a Growth Lever
GigaLab is also committed to continuing its investments in research and development. Among its areas of focus is the design of multiplex rapid tests capable of detecting multiple pathogens from a single sample.
This approach could help streamline certain diagnostic procedures and broaden the use of rapid tests in various medical contexts.
The appointment of Mohammed Aiouche thus marks a phase for the group where it seeks to integrate industrial development, innovation, and commercial expansion. Strengthening its production capabilities and expanding its distribution network are essential levers to support its growth in Morocco and international markets.
