Guinea-Bissau’s Foreign Minister Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Territorial Integrity

On Monday in Rabat, Fatumata Jau, the Foreign Minister of International Cooperation and Communities of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, reiterated her country’s unwavering support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.

In a statement to the press following her discussions with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, Jau emphasized Guinea-Bissau’s total backing for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco, describing it as the only credible and realistic solution to this artificial dispute.

She underscored the significance of Guinea-Bissau opening a general consulate in Dakhla in October 2020, an action that, she noted, confirms the strength of the partnership between the two brotherly nations.

Jau viewed this diplomatic move as aligned with the international momentum initiated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in support of the autonomy plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara.

Additionally, the Guinea-Bissau chief diplomat expressed satisfaction with the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2797, which recognizes the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the foundation for a fair, sustainable, and mutually acceptable resolution to this dispute.
