Hello 2026: High Traffic at Tangier Med Port for the Return of Moroccan Expatriates

Tanger Med Port Experiences High Traffic During Marhaba 2026 Operation
The Tanger Med port is currently experiencing a significant influx of travelers as part of the second phase of the Marhaba 2026 operation, which facilitates the return of Moroccans living abroad to their countries of residence. Despite the increase in traffic, operations are, so far, proceeding under generally satisfactory conditions.
The Fixed Ticket System Eases Departure Management
For the second consecutive year, the operation relies heavily on the “fixed ticket” system, which helps to better manage passenger flows and avoid overcrowding at the port.
However, port authorities anticipate another surge in traffic in the coming days, as many Moroccans residing abroad prepare to return to their homes after their summer stays in Morocco.
Travelers are therefore encouraged to carefully check the date and time specified on their tickets before heading to Tanger Med. Those with open or undated tickets are asked to contact their shipping company to regularize their reservations.
A Peak in Traffic Expected Between August 25 and 29
Authorities also recommend that travelers, if possible, avoid the period from August 25 to 29, which is expected to see the highest levels of traffic during this return phase of the Marhaba 2026 operation.
This high influx may lead to increased waiting times before boarding. Travelers are thus encouraged to plan their departures in advance and make any necessary reservation changes before arriving at the port.
Modification options are available at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity rest area at the entrance to Tangier, as well as at the Aïn Chouka station in Ksar Sghir.
Changes Remain Subject to Availability
However, ticket modifications remain subject to available spaces aboard the vessels and the capacity of the fleet mobilized under the Marhaba 2026 operation.
With the gradual return of thousands of Moroccans living abroad, the upcoming period represents a particularly sensitive phase for port operations. Checking tickets in advance and anticipating reservations should facilitate smoother travel and reduce waiting times at Tanger Med port.
