International Transport: Morocco Engages in Discussions with the EU to Facilitate Visa Issuance for Drivers

Visa Issues for Moroccan Professional Drivers Discussed in EU Meeting
On Tuesday in Casablanca, Abdessamad Kayouh, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, announced that the topic of visas for Moroccan professional drivers was central to a meeting held via video conference with the European Commissioner responsible for sustainable transport and tourism.
This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the mobility of international transport professionals and strengthen the competitiveness of Moroccan companies operating on logistic corridors connecting Morocco to Europe.
Challenges Impacting Operators’ Competitiveness
According to Minister Kayouh, discussions primarily focused on the difficulties Moroccan drivers face in obtaining visas, a constraint that directly affects the operations of international transport companies. These administrative hurdles hinder the seamless flow of trade and logistics between Morocco and its European partners.
Exploring Short- and Long-Term Solutions
Kayouh characterized the meeting as "very positive," noting that several potential solutions were brought up. These proposals, aimed at addressing the issues in the short, medium, and long term, will be further explored in coordination with Spain to facilitate Moroccan drivers’ access to European territories.
Towards an Evolution in Electronic Visa Regulations
The minister also emphasized that these measures align with anticipated advancements in electronic visa regulations. A reform is expected in the coming weeks, which could help simplify certain procedures and improve the mobility of the professionals involved.
Logismed 2026 Highlights Regional Logistics Challenges
These announcements were made on the sidelines of the 13th edition of the International Transport and Logistics Exhibition for Africa and the Mediterranean (Logismed), held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This year’s event, themed “An Intelligent Logistics Ecosystem: Connecting Territories and Reinventing the Supply Chain,” is expected to welcome over 7,000 professional visitors and spotlight the modernization and competitive challenges facing the logistics sector in Morocco and the region.
