Iran Announces Full Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz

Iran Announces Reopening of Strait of Hormuz to International Maritime Traffic
On Friday, Iran announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international maritime navigation for the remaining duration of the ongoing ceasefire in the Middle East, following a truce agreement between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
A Decision Tied to Regional Truce
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated in a message posted on social media platform X that "the passage of all commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz will be fully authorized for the remainder of the ceasefire." He further specified that this would occur "via the coordinated mechanism announced by the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization."
Duration Not Specified
The minister did not specify the exact duration of this measure, amid a context marked by several ceasefire arrangements in the region.
A two-week truce between Iran and the United States has been in effect since April 7 and 8, while a ten-day ceasefire was implemented in Lebanon from Thursday night to Friday.
A Strategic Passage for Global Trade
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most strategic maritime routes in the world for oil transportation, making any decision regarding it directly impactful on energy markets and international trade.
