New Car Sales in Morocco Exceed 131,000 Units in the First Half of 2026

The Moroccan market for new vehicles continued its growth in 2026, supported by rising demand, the surge of electric and hybrid powertrains, and the increasing presence of Chinese brands in the national market.
According to the latest data from the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM), 27,193 new vehicles were registered in June 2026, compared to 23,298 a year earlier, marking an increase of 16.72%.
These registrations include 24,649 passenger cars and 2,544 light commercial vehicles, confirming the positive dynamics across various market segments.
By the end of the first half of 2026, cumulative sales reached 131,748 new vehicles, representing a 17.6% increase from the same period in 2025. Passenger cars accounted for 116,802 units, while light commercial vehicles totaled 14,946 units.
In terms of brands, Dacia maintained its leading position with 6,400 vehicles sold in June, capturing approximately 26% market share, an increase of 14.02% year-on-year. Renault secured second place with 4,681 units and a market share of 18.99%. Together, Renault’s brands sold over 11,000 cars during the month.
Peugeot came in third with 1,543 sales, ahead of Volkswagen (1,491 units), which has now surpassed Hyundai, which fell to fifth place after experiencing a decline of more than 18% in sales.
Among the notable performances for the month, Citroën nearly doubled its sales with an increase of 98.4% compared to June 2025. Kia, Škoda, Opel, and Audi rounded out the Top 10, with Audi maintaining its status as the leading premium brand ahead of BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
The segment of electrified vehicles continues to show strong growth. Electric and hybrid cars now represent 16.8% of passenger car registrations, compared to around 10% a year ago.
In the first six months of 2026, 19,611 electrified vehicles were registered, marking a 97.1% year-on-year increase. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) recorded the highest growth, with an increase of over 170%, while fully electric vehicles (BEVs), mild hybrids (MHEVs), and range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs) are also continuing to grow.
Chinese brands are also continuing to gain ground. Since the beginning of the year, 21 Chinese manufacturers have sold 13,148 cars, representing 11.3% of the passenger car market. In just June, their sales reached 2,662 units, accounting for 10.8% of that month’s registrations, confirming their rising influence in the Moroccan market.
