Moroccan Payment Institution M2T Wins International Award for Compliance Excellence in Dubai
Moroccan payment institution M2T, a subsidiary of the Banque Centrale Populaire (BCP) Group, has received an international accolade at the Excellence in Compliance Awards held in Dubai. The company was awarded the "Best Compliance Team" prize, which honors the performance of teams responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and managing risks within financial institutions.
This recognition highlights the efforts made by the Moroccan company to strengthen its control systems and adapt its practices to the evolving payment sector.
Award Presentation at the Excellence in Compliance Awards
The award ceremony took place on September 3, 2026, in Dubai, organized by the Middle East & Africa Compliance Association (MEACA) in partnership with NielsonSmith. M2T announced its achievement in a press release published on November 3 in Casablanca.
The Moroccan institution was among three finalists in its category, competing against JHI and South African bank Nedbank. Following thorough evaluation, a jury composed of professionals from the banking, financial, and payment sectors selected M2T for the quality of its internal compliance organization.
The Excellence in Compliance Awards gathers economic and financial players from the Middle East and Africa to showcase initiatives related to governance, ethics, regulatory control, and risk management.
Compliance at the Core of M2T’s Strategy
This recognition comes amid a fast-changing landscape of digital financial services and increasing regulatory requirements for payment institutions. To navigate these transformations, M2T has engaged in several initiatives aimed at bolstering its control mechanisms and further integrating compliance obligations into its daily operations.
This approach aligns with the governance and risk oversight directives of the Banque Centrale Populaire Group. It supports the development of M2T’s services in the Moroccan market, where emerging payment practices impose heightened demands for security and reliability.
A Network of Over 7,000 Sales Points in Morocco
Licensed by Bank Al-Maghrib, M2T operates a national network of more than 7,000 sales points. The company engages notably in money transfers through Chaabi Cash, bill and service payments via Tasshilat, and mobile payments through the Chaabi Pay application.
Since May 1, 2025, M2T has also been involved in card acquiring services through Chaabi Payment, designed to facilitate multichannel payments. This new venture complements the services developed by the institution over its 25 years in the sector.
A Subsidiary of the BCP Group Operating in 32 Countries
The recognition received in Dubai is part of the broader development of the Banque Centrale Populaire Group, the parent company of M2T. With a presence in 32 countries, including 18 in Africa, the banking group operates across various financial sectors, including banking, insurance, and financial technology.
Meanwhile, MEACA, the organizer of the ceremony, is a nonprofit professional association founded in 2022. It promotes best practices concerning compliance, governance, and risk management among economic and financial entities in the Middle East and Africa.
Through this award, M2T’s compliance teams gain regional recognition for their work in an environment where the rise of digital payments is accompanied by an increased focus on regulatory compliance and risk management.
