TAQA Morocco Completes Financing for the Boujmil Wind Farm

TAQA Morocco has reached a significant milestone in the development of its renewable energy activities. On November 3, 2026, the group announced the successful financing of the first phase of the Boujmil wind farm, located in northern Morocco. The project represents an investment of approximately 1.3 billion dirhams for an initial installed capacity of 96 megawatts (MW).

This operation is also a first for the group, as it marks its inaugural green financing, secured with the support of four Moroccan banks.

Four Moroccan Banks Mobilized for the Project

The financing for this initial tranche includes participation from Banque Centrale Populaire, Attijariwafa Bank, Bank of Africa, and Saham Bank. The conclusion of the financial and contractual agreements now allows TAQA Morocco to move forward with the construction of this wind infrastructure.

According to the schedule provided by the group, the first electricity deliveries are expected in the second half of 2027. The capacity of the wind farm could then be increased to 144 MW as part of a planned extension.

Production Intended to Power 120,000 Households

In the long term, the Boujmil wind farm is projected to generate enough electricity to meet the consumption needs of approximately 120,000 households, according to estimates from TAQA Morocco. The group also anticipates that this renewable production will help avoid nearly 250,000 tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

To oversee the development of this infrastructure, TAQA Morocco will rely on TAQA Morocco Wind Corporation (TMWC), a dedicated company responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the facilities.

This structure is a subsidiary of TAQA Morocco Wind Green Energy (TMGE), which is wholly owned by TAQA Morocco. This organization will ensure the monitoring of the various stages of the project, from construction to commissioning and operation of the wind farm.

TAQA Morocco Accelerates Its Energy Diversification

According to Abdelmajid Iraqui Houssaini, Chairman of the Management Board of TAQA Morocco, the Boujmil project represents a new step in the diversification of the group’s activities. He particularly highlights the contribution of Moroccan financial institutions in realizing this first green financing operation, as well as the employment opportunities—both direct and indirect—related to the project.

Historically associated with electricity production, TAQA Morocco aims to gradually strengthen its presence in renewable energy and low-carbon energy infrastructure. The group is also expanding its activities into green hydrogen, seawater desalination, and water and electricity transport networks.

Established in 1997 and listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange since December 2013, the company reports that it contributes to over 30% of national electricity demand.

With the Boujmil wind farm, TAQA Morocco is adding a new infrastructure to its energy portfolio. The first phase, for which financing is now secured, is set to begin production in the second half of 2027, with a potential capacity extension to 144 MW.
