Mali Withdraws Recognition of the Polisario Front

Mali Revokes Recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic
On Friday, April 10, Mali announced its decision to withdraw recognition of the "Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic," a puppet entity of the Polisario Front. This development came after a meeting in Bamako between Mali’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdoulaye Diop, and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, who was visiting the Malian capital. This decision marks a significant shift in the African context of the Western Sahara issue.
The Malian government stated that, "after a thorough analysis of this important Saharan dossier which affects peace and security in the sub-region, Mali has decided today to withdraw its recognition of the ‘Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic,’" according to an official statement delivered by Abdoulaye Diop following their discussions.
